Stupid People In Charlotte Really Pissing Me Off

As a follow-up to yesterday’s dumb quote from a Charlotte Observer reader, here’s another gem I found today in the newspaper:

Ronald Reagon brought down the Soviet Union.  Put him on the $10. What did Alexander Hamilton ever do? Leave Ulysses S. Grant on the $50.  He won the Civil War, thus saving the union.  Grant was the Eisenhower of his day. He was a national hero of biblical proportions.  His place in history should be secure, and so should his place on the fifty.”

Before submitting his entry, this person should have actually researched what Alexander Hamilton “ever did”.  Hamilton was a founding father of our nation, the 1st Secretary of Treasury, and created the First National Bank.  Meanwhile, Ulysses S. Grant gets credit for winning the Civil War because he was the only competent Union General.  The North had every advantage in manpower, supplies, Navy, etc.  It was only a matter of time; so considering how the deck was stacked in his favor, I wouldn’t call Grant a “hero of biblical proportions”.   Grant is also usually ranked by history scholars in the bottom half of U.S. Presidents due to the rampant corruption in his cabinet.

Me, I vote for James K. Polk as the new face of the $50 bill.  Half this nation’s land was gained under his Presidency.  That’s almost as good as bringing down the Soviet Union.  So why not Polk?
